This course, “Chief Complaint & HPI Documentation for Ocular Conditions,” is designed to test and reinforce your knowledge of proper patient intake procedures. You’ll be quizzed on the essential elements of a History of Present Illness (HPI) and how to accurately document the chief complaint for patients with specific chronic eye conditions. This quiz focuses on three key areas:

  • Glaucoma: Learn what details are critical to include in the HPI for patients with this condition, such as last intraocular pressure (IOP) reading, medication adherence, and any recent changes in vision or symptoms.

  • Macular Degeneration: Understand the key questions to ask and information to record for patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), including visual changes (e.g., distortion or blur), treatment history (e.g., injections), and any at-home Amsler grid monitoring.

  • Diabetes: Master the specific HPI components for diabetic patients, such as their last A1c result, how long they’ve had diabetes, and any reported vision fluctuations, which are crucial for monitoring for diabetic retinopathy.

Passing this quiz demonstrates your ability to gather comprehensive and accurate patient information, a foundational skill for providing excellent optometric care.
